AbstractEste trabalho tem como intuito analisar as múltiplas escalas de tempo que dominam a varibilidade do conteudo total de ozonio estratosférico (CTO) na América do Sul. Foram utilizadas imagens digitais (sensor TOMS) obtidas pelo satélite Nimbus7, período de 01 de janeiro de 1979 a 31 de dezembro de 1992. A metodologia utilizada baseia-se no uso da transformada de ondeletas. Os resultados obtidos indicam que na região equatorial a amplitude das oscilações é pequena, principalmente nas altas frequencias. Observa-se uma presença marcante dos ciclos semi-anual, anual, e da oscilação quase-bianual (OQB), que apresentam interações de escalas em certos períodos. A variabilidade latitudinal da potencia do espectro integrado da ondeleta do CTO destaca oscilacões de alta frequencia (6 dias) e o ciclo anual mais fraco e OQB menos acentuada respectivamente concentrados em torno de 35o e 40 o Sul. ABSTRACT: The objective of this study is to analyze the multiple time scales present in the variability of the total ozone content (TOC) over South America. The data set used consists of daily Nimbus 7 Satellites´s TOMS (Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer) images, for the 1979 - 1992 period. The analysis was based on the wavelet transform tecnique. The obtained results show that in the equatorial regions the amplitude of the observed oscillations are small, mainly the high frequency ones. Also it is observed a significant presence of the semi-annual, annual, quase-biennial (QBO) oscillations and interactions among them in specific time periods. The latitudinal variabilty of the global wavelet spectrum of TOC stands out a high frequency (6 days) oscillation and a weaker annual cycle and QBO, respectivelly located around 35 o e 40 S o.
